Earth Observation Satellite from APRIL
This week, imagery from the AFR Satellite highlights Khasab, located in the strategically vital Musandam Peninsula near the Strait of Hormuz.
The imagery highlights key features such as Khasab Port, Bassa Beach, Bukha Harbour, and surrounding rugged mountains, derived from Panchromatic (PAN), Natural Color Composite (NCC), and False Color Composite (FCC) band combinations. The Musandam Peninsula is characterized by dramatic fjord-like inlets, known locally as "khors," formed by tectonic activity and coastal erosion.
These narrow waterways support fishing communities, tourism, and small-scale maritime operations. Its elevated terrain provides natural vantage points, making it highly significant for monitoring vessel movement across the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s busiest maritime chokepoints handling a major share of global oil transit.
High-resolution satellite data from AFR enables detailed monitoring of coastal infrastructure, urban expansion, and terrain, supporting applications in navigation safety, environmental monitoring, and strategic planning in this geopolitically significant corridor.
