The Musandam Peninsula is characterized by dramatic fjord-like inlets, known locally as "khors," formed by tectonic activity and coastal erosion. These narrow waterways support fishing communities, tourism, and small-scale maritime operations. Its elevated terrain provides natural vantage points, making it highly significant for monitoring vessel movement across the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s busiest maritime chokepoints handling a major share of global oil transit. High-resolution satellite data from AFR enables detailed monitoring of coastal infrastructure, urban expansion, and terrain, supporting applications in navigation safety, environmental monitoring, and strategic planning in this geopolitically significant corridor.
