HeartDogs – Training Rescued Indies as Assistance & Therapy Dogs

HeartDogs Enablement Foundation gives rescued Indian street dogs - commonly known as Indies - a new purpose by training them as assistance, service, and therapy dogs for people with disabilities. Our programme supports individuals and families affected by autism, mobility limitations, hearing impairment, and mental health challenges. The dogs are raised from puppyhood by women foster-trainers in rural India, who use compassionate, force-free and positive reinforcement techniques throughout their development. Once trained, suitable dogs are matched with families and placed in hospitals, schools, rehabilitation centres, and other care settings across India. HeartDogs also collaborates with families, healthcare organisations, businesses, and CSR/ESG partners seeking meaningful ways to advance disability inclusion, animal welfare, and sustainable rural employment. As an early structured initiative focused on training Indian Indies for assistance and service roles, HeartDogs aims to make professionally trained support dogs more accessible to people and communities across India.
